Why waste matters: cuts at walls and mistakes eat material. Straight layouts need about 10%, diagonal about 15%, and herringbone or patterned layouts 20% or more.
📦
You buy whole boxes, so cost is based on boxes times coverage, not just your square footage. Buying one spare box is cheap insurance for future repairs.
🎨
Dye lots vary. Buy everything from the same batch, and don't count closets or other areas unless you're flooring them too.

How it works

Each room's area is length × width, and the tool adds all rooms together. Your waste percentage increases that total to cover cuts and mistakes. Boxes needed are the total with waste divided by the square feet per box, rounded up, because flooring is sold by the whole box. Estimated cost is boxes × square feet per box × price per square foot, so it reflects the full boxes you actually buy.

Frequently asked questions

How much waste should I plan for?

Straight layouts usually need about 10%, diagonal about 15%, and herringbone or other patterns 20% or more. Rooms with many corners or angles need extra.

Should I buy an extra box?

It is a good idea. Dye lots vary between batches and a spare box makes future repairs far easier.

Should I include closets and hallways?

Only the spaces that will actually get new flooring. Add each as its own room so the total is right.

Does cost include underlayment and installation?

No. The cost covers the flooring boxes only. Underlayment, trim, adhesive, tools, and labor are extra.
