Quick answers

How is WPM calculated?

The standard formula: one "word" equals 5 characters (including spaces), regardless of actual word length. WPM = (total characters typed correctly ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. This is the same method used by most typing test sites, so your score here is comparable to results elsewhere.

What's a good typing speed?

Average typists land around 35–45 WPM. 60+ WPM is considered fast, and professional typists (transcriptionists, data entry specialists) often reach 70–100+ WPM. Accuracy matters as much as speed — a fast but error-prone typist usually loses more time to corrections than a slightly slower, more accurate one.

Does a typo end the test?

No. You can keep typing past a mistake — incorrect characters are just marked in red and count against your accuracy score. Only your final accuracy and WPM depend on how many characters you get right versus wrong over the whole passage.
